Social Media positive Affect

Social media is a part of society’s everyday life. It includes applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked In, whatsApp and many other sites where people can communicate and share and their ideas, share photos and much more. Long ago when social media did not exist social communication and interactions were the only way of communicating. However, today people have the ability to communicate and converse through social media from anywhere in the world. Before social media, we were extremely limited in our means to interact with others and we were limited largely to people the, we knew in person. Now we, can connect any in the world by use of social media applications. It has provided us oppurnity to make new friends and to understand each other.

Social Negative Affect

One of the most observable effects of social media on society is social communication. Social skills and interaction are attributes people need to succeed in life. It may be hard to see, but children build these skills as they grow up interacting with other children in face to face scenarios. Social media is severely limiting interactions between children, and most importantly, during a crucial time in their lives. Ehen children and adolescents are young is the time when social skills are being built. It is feared that if adolescents do not limit their use of social media, the future generations will have very poor social and communication skills.

Social and communication skills among adolescents are crucial skills that are experiencing both negative and positive effects from social media. There are blatant aspects of social media that are harming social skills such as spending numerous hours on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and then there are subtle aspects such as like feature. There is no surprise that social media is here to stay with its availability and usefulness in society today. It is obvious that social media is a major components of advertisement for businesses and communication for people around world, and this is completely acceptable. However, the line must be drawn when social media is seen crippling adolescent’s social skills, communication, and causing anti-social behavior. If social media is used correctly such as maintaining relationships among peers, social skills and communication for adolescents should remain intact

Need of Gate Keeper

Gate-keeping is the process through which information is filtered for dissemination, whether for publication, broadcasting, the internet, or some other mode of communication. In my point of view there is need of a gate keeper to filter the social media information thoroughly because some time vulgar and non-authenticated information’s are shared by people.

In my point of view Print media like books, newspapers are still strong in use. But in future it is expected that these will be replaced by digital media. Today people prefer to study newspaper and books on their mobile because they remain available to them all the time. There are internet archives, even digital books can be preserved. E-books and e-newspapers cost much less as compared to Physical books. One may find search information’s easily using e-books but in physical books it’s time consuming.  E-books reduce uses of paper. Spite of all these benefits, digital media hasn’t replace the books and newspapers completely.
